Calo, founded in Bahrain in 2019 by Ahmed Alrawi and Moayed Almoayed, specialises in direct-to-consumer (DTC) meal subscriptions tailored through artificial intelligence to individual dietary preferences and fitness goals. The company currently operates in Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, and Kuwait.

The acquisition marks Calo’s first international expansion beyond the GCC region. According to CEO Ahmed Alrawi, the UK was selected due to timezone compatibility, language, and cultural alignment. Calo intends to further expand into Europe and the United States.

Integration of Detox Kitchen into Calo is set to occur this month, followed by Fresh Fitness Food in May. Calo plans a smooth customer transition by offering meal plans consistent with existing subscriptions.

In December 2024, Calo secured a US$25 million Series B funding round, led by Nuwa Capital, with participation from STV, Khwarizmi Ventures, and regional family offices. Calo aims for a Saudi IPO by 2027 and intends to grow internationally through further mergers and acquisitions.
